City progressed to the fourth round of the FFA Cup with a stunning 6-0 victory over Gosnells City at Hyundai Stadium on Saturday.
Missing five first team players through injury and suspension, City dominated the game against a Gosnells side also hit with missing players.
Right back Mark McLaughlin opened the scoring after 17 minutes, finishing a smart move down the right to blast past the Gosnells keeper.
Matt Stairs added the second after some clever build-up play to see the home side go in at the break two goals up.
Striker Joe O’Brien scored the third, with a stunning twist and chip to beat the keeper after 50 minutes as the floodgates opened.
O’Brien added the fourth as City opened the Gosnells defence at will and Jordan Rhodes added a fifth from the penalty spot after Jeff Bright had been felled.
Abe Tcuono finished off the rout with the sixth after striker Luke Johnstone outrageous back heel across the boxy found the Zimbabwean striker clear.
“We had five first team players out today so to see the youngsters step up was really pleasing,” assistant coach Steve Robinson said.
Coach Doug Hesketh was beaming at the final whistle.
“It is so pleasing to see the strength in depth we now have that we can overcome missing players and play like this. Well done to every single player,” he said.
