Mandurah City Coach Doug Hesketh has praised his squad ahead of Saturday’s State League top of the table clash with Ashfield but warned that this weekend’s game is going to be a battle.

Ashfield have been a top three team for the past three seasons and Hesketh is keen to point that out.

“They have been there at the top for a while now and they are a good side , but so are we and at MCFC we are showing big improvements on our position last season and we do go in to this game underdogs again – but we have confidence in our own ability this week against the league leaders.

Hesketh admitted the recent cup weekend was tough on the players.

“It was very tough for the players and we were all disappointed going out of the Cup, however it is what it is and really when you look back on that weekend to me the glass is half full because our ressies made the semis and we got 3 points away to Dianella.

“The players where fantastic last week at the Knights as well

“Robbo and I asked for a reaction from the cup exit and they didn’t let us down with a solid controlled performance and a great win against a quality team.

“And now we face Ashfield.”

Hesketh said MCFC plays on a very big park that’s ideal for open football.

“Everyone is fit and we are ready for the game. The support has been brilliant at home we really appreciate it and hope we get great support on Saturday again.”

The main game kicks off at 3pm – get down to Hyundai Stadium and support the lads.
